SMS Terms & Opt-In Policy
Effective date: June 11, 2026This page describes the SMS (text message) program operated by My Tandem App and how users opt in and opt out. It is provided for transparency and for carrier / messaging-provider review.
Program Details
Program name: MyTandemApp Low Insulin Alerts
Program description: My Tandem App sends automated text
alerts to notify a user when the estimated insulin remaining in their Tandem t:slim X2
pump cartridge drops below a threshold they configure. This is a transactional,
health-related alerting service — not a marketing program.
Message frequency: Recurring; frequency varies based on pump activity
and the user's configured threshold. Alerts are rate-limited to no more than one per
hour per user.
Cost: Message and data rates may apply.
Supported carriers: Standard US carriers.
Who Receives Messages
My Tandem App is an invitation-only service for individual Tandem insulin pump users and the followers they personally authorize. We do not send messages on behalf of any other business, and we do not purchase, rent, or import phone number lists. Every recipient is an onboarded user (or a follower they invited) who has provided their own mobile number and consent.
How Users Opt In
Consent is collected directly from the user inside the application — during initial onboarding and at any time afterward in Account Settings → Alerts. To receive texts, a user must:
- Turn on the "Text (SMS) alerts" toggle;
- Enter their own mobile phone number; and
- Actively check a separate, unchecked consent box agreeing to receive the alerts.
The exact consent language shown next to the checkbox is:
"By providing your phone number, you agree to receive text messages from MyTandemApp. Message and data rates may apply. Message frequency varies. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. View our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service."
Consent is never pre-checked and is never bundled with any other agreement. The timestamp of each user's consent is recorded for audit purposes. Phone numbers are used only to deliver these alerts and are never sold, rented, or shared for marketing.
Sample Message
MyTandemApp Alert: Insulin low on your pump (12 units remaining). Check your device. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help.
How Users Opt Out
A user can stop messages at any time by replying STOP to any text, or by turning off SMS alerts in Account Settings. Replying HELP returns help information and a link to support.
Not a Medical Device
My Tandem App is an informational tool only and is not a medical device. Alerts may be delayed or fail to send due to factors outside our control (network, carrier delivery, third-party API availability). Always rely on your pump and CGM directly for clinical decisions.
